Getting There

By Air
The international airport is about 11kms from the capital city, Bujumbura, and is maintained well enough to cater to most of your needs. Taxis are available from the airport to the city. Air travel to Burundi is inexpensive with direct flights from France, Ethiopia, Cameroon, Congo and Kenya.

By Road
It is possible to drive to Burundi from either the north or the south of Democratic Republic of Congo. The road from Rwanda to Burundi is also passable but from Tanzania it is poor. Because of the ongoing ethnic clash, visitors should note that border entry points are sometimes closed.

By Water
Cargo and Passenger steamers ply between Kigoma (Tanzania) and Lake Tanganyika in Bujumbura. Less frequent is the service from Kalemi (Democratic Republic of Congo) and Mpulungu (Zambia) to Bujumbura.
